Day 1 (6/20/21): Heading West

I started out this morning in Long Beach Island, New Jersey. I was there for the weekend for a friend from college's birthday. From there, I would be heading west, to officially start my trip back to Washington.

It was a long day of driving; my final destination was Akron, Ohio. I left around 8:30 a.m., and drove all the way from New Jersey through Pennsylvania and to Ohio. I stopped for lunch at a rest stop for a picnic. It was nothing special. It was slow going because the speed limit was about 70 or 75; however, I was only going about 60 or 65. Therefore, what Google maps claimed is an 8-hour drive was more like 11:00, with stops. I arrived at my boondocker post around 8:00 p.m., after getting gas and groceries. It was an elderly man's home with a few acres behind it. He had been there for 30 years, and had a lot of interesting things on his land. Such as an old school bus, a few vans, some go-karts, some trucks, and some old looking diesel gas tanks with pumps even!  He met me there when I arrived in the pouring rain in his little four wheel cart. He got me hooked up and wanted to introduce me to a few of the other campers. So I hopped in his dune buggy and went over to the other site where I'm at a nice woman named, Karen. She was also traveling by herself; however, she was retired. She had been traveling about 6 weeks and was from California. She was very nice and we chatted for a while before I went back to my camper.

There was a break in the rain, so l did a quick workout, despite it being over 80° and 1,000% humidity. The air was so still, humid, and sticky. It was disgusting. This is definitely high on my reasons that I'm leaving the East Coast; the summertime thunderstorm humidity that my West Coast blood can't handle.

Anyways, I finished my workout and made dinner which was just a buffalo chicken salad. Then, I took a cold shower to cool down, even though the water wasn't even cold and I headed to bed. The next day I was heading to Cuyahoga Valley National Park and then to Michigan. So I wanted to get up early to get out on the road early because it was going to be another long day.
